Yadikya Golf Club: Yadikya Honors Altadena Golf Course Staff

Welcome to Our Yadikya Golf Club

The Yadikya Golf Club is an informal club established over eleven years ago and has steadily grown in numbers and stature over the years. Currently over 40 golfers participate in this group, and at least twenty play each week. You can find the Yadikya's playing at the Altadena Golf Course every Saturday.

This web page provides an opportunity for the Yadikya's to share their successes with each other, and will allow the members to keep up to date on the weekly competitions that occur, along with each members standing as we move toward awarding the infamous Yadikya Cup at the end of each season on June 30.

This group of golfers has been known to informally plan outings to places such as Laughlin, Nevada for golf and family fun. They are going to Santa Anita Race Track as a group. They have parties together and they have enjoyed Super Bowl at Damon's Steak House together. The Yadikya's have supported charitable golf tournaments through their group participation and sometimes through donations. This site will allow members to know about coming events on the site calendar.

It is interesting to see how such an informal group can establish its own policies, practices, and group recognition without much of the turmoil that often occurs in other golfing clubs. If you ask any of the members, they will tell you that they are proud to call themselves, "YADIKYA" members.

Yadikya Honors Altadena Golf Course Staff

Thank you to our CEO, Chuck for leading us so well for so many years. What a great letter representing all of the members thoughts and interests in playing golf.

Re: Altadena Golf

As a short introduction, let me tell you about a little of the background of our group. I joined a group of golfers playing at Altadena when I was 36 years of age. I had never played golf before, but my wife taught with a group of teachers whose spouses played every Saturday at Altadena. These “gentlemen” invited me to join them on numerous occasions. I was playing softball at the time, but was not able to continue due to injuries. By default, I was persuaded to take up golf. Thus began a journey to meet new friends and experience the game of golf. I am now 62 years old and retired.

The original members of this group are now memories, but our group has grown and evolved over time to become what is today called; “YADIKYA”. We have been playing at Altadena for almost 30 years! From an original five members, we are now almost 35 strong. We do not have all members present every Saturday, but we usually have 12-20 play every Saturday. Our usual routine is to play nine holes, go to the restaurant/bar and eat, drink and talk. We have a great time and we have made wonderful friends through this group.

Although we have never met, we would like to complement you and your staff. Kevin and Courtney Erdman have always been true professionals, and they are to be commended for their hard work to make Altadena a great place. You are fortunate to have such hard working people on your staff. They set a tone that is welcoming and understanding. Pete, the starter, is also to be thanked for his ability to accept our needs!

The restaurant staff; Nordelia, Jackie and the cooks do a great job of putting up with our mess and making our Saturdays fun! You are truly fortunate to have staff so competent.

Finally, if there is ever anything we can do to help you continue to improve Altadena Golf, please let us know. We sincerely hope to remain dedicated friends of Altadena Golf. We would be pleased to meet you in person if the time is available.

Golf-Yadikya Style at Hansen Dam

You have to read this golf story, Yadikya Style, from beginning to end. If you miss the ending, you miss what Yadikya is all about.

Excellent day at Hansen on 12/26/2012!

We played a round robin scramble for $5/3 holes.

First three holes:

Gordon and Chuck vs. Larry and Ron:

1st. Hole - chuck played masterfully but could not carry Gordon's early round jitters. Ron and Larry two strokes ahead on a series of lucky bounces.

2nd. Hole - chuck again drives the ball well while Gordon sputters. Larry bounces a drive off a tree and a rock to land in the middle of the fairway. Chuck chips to ten feet of the pin. Gordon skulls his shot over the green. Ron putts from forty feet off the green to eight feet. Gordon putts wide left by four feet. Chuck strokes a masterful putt that misses the hole due to the footprint left by Gordon. No blood so Gordon and chuck are two down going into last hole.

3rd. Hole - excellent drive by chuck. Gordon tops his drive fifty yards. Good drives by Ron and Larry. Great three wood by Larry followed by another great shot by chuck. Gordon tops a driver off the turf thirty yards. Larry and Ron duff their third shots short of the green. Gordon pulls three wood left. Chuck lofts a beautiful hybrid onto the green. Ron chips fourth shot to twenty feet. Gordon advises chuck on the long birdie putt, but advice is poor and putt is short. Gordon putts poorly. Chuck sinks par putt while Larry and Ron two putt for bogie.

At end of first three holes - Ron and Larry collect $5/each from chuck and Gordon. Gordon grumbles.

Next teams: chuck and Larry vs. Gordon and Ron.

4th hole - Gordon comes alive and hits a great drive. Larry hits a boomer down the left side. All four hit mediocre second shots so it is a short game contest. Gordon flubs a chip that bounces off a rock, caroms onto the green and stops six feet from the hole. Chuck hits a lofted wedge in front of the pin that takes a bad bounce and stops eight feet past the pin. Chuck misses his par putt when Gordon coughs loudly during his stroke. Result - two bogies

5th. Hole - Ron hits good drive. Gordon tops drive to the ladies tee. Chuck and Larry hit perfect drives. Ron hits good second, Gordon tops three wood to woods. Chuck hits hybrid to 120 yards from green. Gordon and Ron duff third shots. Chuck hits eight iron onto green. Ron hits fourth shot onto green. Birdie putts are short for chuck and Larry. Ron and Gordon putt wide left but Ron makes putt for six. Chucks par putt misses when Gordon drops club and passes gas loudly when bending over to retrieve club. Arguing ensues regarding good sportsmanship. Gordon grumbles. Still tied.

6th. Hole - decent drives by Ron and Larry. Second shots by Ron and Gordon are weak and thirty yards short. Chuck hits magnificent seven iron to green. Gordon's third shot bounces off the rake by the bunker and stops three feet from the hole. Chuck and Larry can't convert the birdie putt.

Six hole results - tie. Gordon grumbles.

Next teams - chuck and Ron vs. Larry and Gordon. Larry grumbles.

7th. Hole - Ron hits driver through green. Gordon and Larry hit laughable drives. Chuck hits four hybrid onto green within ten feet. Gordon hits second shot which bounds off cart tire onto green. Gordon and Larry two putt for bogie. Chuck sinks beautiful putt for birdie despite fact Gordon rolls a ball between his feet during stroke. Chuck and Ron two up. Gordon harrumphs.

8 th. hole - decent drives by all. Chuck and Ron hit second shots short of green. Gordon hits three wood 130 yards. Chucks third shot stays below the hole. Gordon hits three wood twenty yards to stay just inside chuck. Ron misses par putt by inches. Chucks putt goes just past the hole when Gordon sneaks behind him with a "gotcha" during stroke. Much arguing ensues. Harrumphs and grumbles all around. Chuck and Ron two up with one hole to go.

9th. Hole - chuck hits only decent shot, just short of bunker on left. Larry and Gordon hit weakly while Ron and chuck snicker. Chuck hits good chip past hole ten feet. Gordon once again hits a masterful three wood twenty yards to the green. Chuck sinks par putt with Ron's assist. Ron prevents Gordon from disturbing chuck. Final score - chuck and Ron three strokes up.

Final standings:

Chuck and Larry even.

Gordon down$10.

Ron wins $10.

During meeting in bar Gordon grumbles he will never play a scramble again.

One round of drinks. Gordon grumbles his vodka tastes like tequila. Turns out it is tequila.

Much good natured conversation. Gordon grumbles meekly.

Another round of drinks. Gordon smiles weakly.

Ron has to leave and generously leaves $30 for the bill. Good sport!

Third round of drinks. Conversation turns nostalgic. Gordon says " I love you guys". The gentlemen at the adjacent table grumble.

In parking lot hugs all around. Gordon has dinner plans with Cheever.

In parting, Gordon says, " can't wait til the next scramble!"

A Brief History of the Yadikya Golf Club

John S. joined the unnamed group in 2002, after Chuck saw my car for sale, bought it dirt cheap, and asked if I played golf....

In 2004, after listening to Gordon say "you dick you" every time someone beat him on a hole, (I had already decided to design a logo and try to name the group.) , I designed the Yadikya logo with Gordon's words in mind and came up with the Official name and Official Logo. This is John's memory of how the naming of the club came to be.
