Welcome to Our Yadikya Golf Club

The Yadikya Golf Club is an informal club established over eleven years ago and has steadily grown in numbers and stature over the years. Currently over 40 golfers participate in this group, and at least twenty play each week. You can find the Yadikya's playing at the Altadena Golf Course every Saturday.

This web page provides an opportunity for the Yadikya's to share their successes with each other, and will allow the members to keep up to date on the weekly competitions that occur, along with each members standing as we move toward awarding the infamous Yadikya Cup at the end of each season on June 30.

This group of golfers has been known to informally plan outings to places such as Laughlin, Nevada for golf and family fun. They are going to Santa Anita Race Track as a group. They have parties together and they have enjoyed Super Bowl at Damon's Steak House together. The Yadikya's have supported charitable golf tournaments through their group participation and sometimes through donations. This site will allow members to know about coming events on the site calendar.

It is interesting to see how such an informal group can establish its own policies, practices, and group recognition without much of the turmoil that often occurs in other golfing clubs. If you ask any of the members, they will tell you that they are proud to call themselves, "YADIKYA" members.

We look forward to sharing your self description on this blog in the near future. Please send your own self censored comments to our CIO, Larry T. at larry.tash@gmail.com and you will see your self description up on our blog in the near future too.

We are now bringing royalty from other clubs to our well established fraternity. Welcome Michael V.

Updated Yadikya Results as of November 7, 2009

Hey Yadikya Members: Here is the latest data on your placement within the club as of November 7, 2009. Standings are still close, but what is apparent from analysis of the data is that if you don't play, you can't move up in the standings. So, we hope to see you all out at Altadena Golf Course as frequently as possible on Saturday mornings. Remember, if you don't play enough, you won't be in the end of the year running for the Yadikya Cup. People all over the country read with envy the opportunity that only our members have to be placed on this perpetual trophy. Good luck everyone, and see you soon.

A Golf Poem Shared by John Shannon

In My Hand I Hold A Ball,
White And Dimpled, Rather Small.
Oh, How Bland It Does Appear,
This Harmless Looking Little Sphere.

By It's Size I Could Not Guess,
The Awesome Strength It Does Possess.
But Since I Fell Beneath Its Spell,
I've Wandered Through The Fires Of Hell..

My Life Has Not Been Quite The Same,
Since I Chose To Play This Stupid Game.
It Rules My Mind For Hours On End,
A Fortune It Has Made Me Spend.

It Has Made Me Yell, Curse And Cry.
I Hate Myself And Want To Die.
It Promises A Thing Called Par,
If I Can Hit It straight And Far..

To Master Such A Tiny Ball,
Should Not Be Very Hard At All.
But My Desires The Ball Refuses,
And Does Exactly As It Chooses.

It Hooks And Slices, Dribbles And Dies,
And Even Disappears Before My Eyes.
Often It Will Have A Whim,
To Hit A Tree Or Take A Swim.

With Miles Of Grass On Which To Land,
It Finds A Tiny Patch Of Sand.
Then Has Me Offering Up My Soul,
If Only It Would Find The Hole.

It's Made Me Whimper Like A Pup,
And Swear That I Will Give It Up.
And Take To Drink To Ease My Sorrow,
But The Ball Knows .... I'll Be Back Tomorrow.

Ed Z Makes Yadikya Proud

Ed Z. is one of our honored Yadikya members and a great guy besides. He is the principal at a well known high school in Los Angeles, Fairfax High School, that has had a long history of academic success followed by academic downturn. That is the downturn has been occurring for sometime until our own Ed Z. came to the school as principal and began the strategic process of improving teaching and learning. The results have been outstanding for the students, school, and community. Ed Z. and his staff should be very proud of their accomplishments, and all Yadikya members should congratulate him on this success. If you wish to read the entire article in the LA Times, you can find it at the URL below.

CONGRATULATIONS ED! We all support you.

Yadikya End of Year Party a Great Success

Once again the members of Yadikya closed out another successful golf year with their annual party. This year members played their regular round of golf at Altadena Golf Course and left immediately for Mi Casita, a Mexican Restaurant in Sunland owned by Yadikya member, Miguel. Members enjoyed lunch together and shared stories from the days golf and the years big events, such as Mike A's hole-in-one.

The highlight of the lunch followed the meal when prizes for those who finished in the top on on leaders scoreboard the results are below in a separate location of this blog). The top ten winners each earned an inscribed flask with the Yadikya logo clearly evident. There were several special awards also earned during the year including:
  • The "Horses Ass" award that was last won by Gordon, who had the privilege of identifying this year's winner. After scrutinizing each member and stating why they could have received the recognition, Gordon came to the conclusion that only one person earned the award for the past year. The winner was once again Gordon. By giving the perpetual to himself, he probably earned the respect of the members, and gained a step up for keeping it when the time comes to select the next year's winner. Congratulations Gordon, no one can say that you aren't a "Horses Ass", you won the award for at least the third straight year.
  • A special inscribed flask was earned by CEO, Chuck. His flask was at least three times larger than those given to all other winners. In all fairness to Chuck, he was given this oversized flask at his recent retirement party, so it didn't cost the group much to award him with his prize. I have to say, it is so big that he can't hide it anywhere in his golf bag during future Saturday golf games. He may have gained some acknowledgement from members that perhaps Gordon won't keep the "Horses Ass" award next year, when the CEO puts himself out with such a big flask. The only way to keep his membership happy may be to fill the flask and share the contents frequently. I know that Chuck usually put lemonade or gatorade in his smaller flask to keep from dehydrating during summer play.
  • The overall winner this year was a man who uses every muscle in his body on every shot. It doesn't matter if he is hitting a 300 yard drive, or a three foot putt. Ken has kept healthy over the past year by getting the most exercise everytime he swings a club. He participated in 51 out of 52 Saturday competitions. It is amazing that he did not get sick even once this year. For his first place finish, he won a nicely engraved flask, but the more important, his name has been added to the newly designed Yadikya Cup. He can hold his head up high as he shows to his family, friends, and work associates that his name is clearly placed on the Yadikya perpetual trophy that we hope will be proudly placed in the coffee shop of the Altadena Golf Course. I hope that Ken has the nerve to show pictures to everyone of the prized recognition. Congratulations Ken, you are a deserving winner.

The 2008-2009 season is now behind us and we are already well into our new season. Coming events include our annual match play golf tournament that once again will be run by Rick B. I am sure that there will be trips planned, and charity tournaments for us to attend as a group. The one thing that we can be sure of is that there will be no politics within this club. Almost no one cares enough to argue about anything, with the exception of maybe one member. Besides if anyone were to argue, they would probably earn the dreaded "Horses Ass" award at the end of the next season. So, we will continue to look to our officers, Chuck, John S, Rich T, and our newest member of the executive board, Gordon to guide us down a path of happiness, cheers, and weekly reservations that are guaranteed to start at exactly 9:00 a.m. each Saturday at Altadena.

Latest in Yadikyah's Informal By-Laws

(As written by Rich Tellez to Yadikyah members on April 10, 2009)

* As you have seen our group is growing, and more golfers are
showing up on Saturdays, sometimes late. This means that it becoming more
difficult to schedule the order of play for our four-somes or five-somes.
when we do not know who is going to show up. Some players have been very
cordial and do not complain, while others have been very vocal about the
order of play. Let it be known that the board of directors, ( CEO, CFO
and soon to be the official CRO) want to be fair so, the board has
proposed the following:

1. All golfers must be at the first tee no later than 8:45 a.m.
If a player arrives late, he or she will placed with the final
Group and will go out last.

2. We will draw numbers for the order of play, starting with group
#2 as our CFO, John Shannon, and his group have to go out first to
record the scores as players come in. Those of you who object to
this see the CEO, Chuck Trudeau, Charter member and He will
file your objection in the correct "Yadikya" placement file.

3. Try as best possible to get your foursome together, and have a
representative place a ball in the drawing for order of play.

4. Our CEO or CFO will call the name of the game i.e. Stanford Shuffle,
red, white, blue, four-man scramble, etc. before play starts. Again,
for those of you who object, see Chuck Trudeau for appropriate
objection form & placement (see #2)

5. In the event we are playing from different tees, all players who
would like to compete for the "eagle" or "hole in one" contest must
hit from the white or blue tees whichever is in play that day.

6. The person who makes the eagle or the hole-in-one must provide
appropriate "refreshments" for members of the Yadikya golf
Association. Those who have more questions about this
see Mike Acosta, and he will give you more information.

The Yadikya Cup Update and Other Information

The Infamous Yadikya Cup is a special award given the Yadikya member who scores the most points during the current golf season. Points are awarded based on weekly placement among the members playing each week. The low net score earns a member a number of points equal to the total number of members that played during that week. Our golf season runs from July 1 to June 30 each year. Congratulations to all of our members, no matter where they finished, it was fun.
