The highlight of the lunch followed the meal when prizes for those who finished in the top on on leaders scoreboard the results are below in a separate location of this blog). The top ten winners each earned an inscribed flask with the Yadikya logo clearly evident. There were several special awards also earned during the year including:
- The "Horses Ass" award that was last won by Gordon, who had the privilege of identifying this year's winner. After scrutinizing each member and stating why they could have received the recognition, Gordon came to the conclusion that only one person earned the award for the past year. The winner was once again Gordon. By giving the perpetual to himself, he probably earned the respect of the members, and gained a step up for keeping it when the time comes to select the next year's winner. Congratulations Gordon, no one can say that you aren't a "Horses Ass", you won the award for at least the third straight year.
- A special inscribed flask was earned by CEO, Chuck. His flask was at least three times larger than those given to all other winners. In all fairness to Chuck, he was given this oversized flask at his recent retirement party, so it didn't cost the group much to award him with his prize. I have to say, it is so big that he can't hide it anywhere in his golf bag during future Saturday golf games. He may have gained some acknowledgement from members that perhaps Gordon won't keep the "Horses Ass" award next year, when the CEO puts himself out with such a big flask. The only way to keep his membership happy may be to fill the flask and share the contents frequently. I know that Chuck usually put lemonade or gatorade in his smaller flask to keep from dehydrating during summer play.
- The overall winner this year was a man who uses every muscle in his body on every shot. It doesn't matter if he is hitting a 300 yard drive, or a three foot putt. Ken has kept healthy over the past year by getting the most exercise everytime he swings a club. He participated in 51 out of 52 Saturday competitions. It is amazing that he did not get sick even once this year. For his first place finish, he won a nicely engraved flask, but the more important, his name has been added to the newly designed Yadikya Cup. He can hold his head up high as he shows to his family, friends, and work associates that his name is clearly placed on the Yadikya perpetual trophy that we hope will be proudly placed in the coffee shop of the Altadena Golf Course. I hope that Ken has the nerve to show pictures to everyone of the prized recognition. Congratulations Ken, you are a deserving winner.
The 2008-2009 season is now behind us and we are already well into our new season. Coming events include our annual match play golf tournament that once again will be run by Rick B. I am sure that there will be trips planned, and charity tournaments for us to attend as a group. The one thing that we can be sure of is that there will be no politics within this club. Almost no one cares enough to argue about anything, with the exception of maybe one member. Besides if anyone were to argue, they would probably earn the dreaded "Horses Ass" award at the end of the next season. So, we will continue to look to our officers, Chuck, John S, Rich T, and our newest member of the executive board, Gordon to guide us down a path of happiness, cheers, and weekly reservations that are guaranteed to start at exactly 9:00 a.m. each Saturday at Altadena.
